Building a reader is hard work! Decoding, the process of translating print into speech rapidly, is one of the most important foundational reading strategies. Students must be able to decode in order to build fluency. This class will begin to set a foundation for your young reader and prepare them for the comprehension work ahead.

When students are trying to read text of any length, they need to have a process for "breaking the written code" of words. Learning the alphabet and the sounds associated with individual letters, provides students with the basic knowledge they need to begin breaking the code. Teaching students decoding strategies provides them with a strong foundation to ensure reading success.
